Breeding Info= TANK: With 2.5G (10L) capacity per pair, and a spawning grid and finely-leaved plants.

GENDER: The ventral fins of the male are deep red to the margins, the upper snout is reddish, the dorsal fin is edged with vivid red, the female is fuller, with duller colouring and ventral fins transparent on the margins.

BREEDING RATIO: 1 Male : 1 Female

BREEDING WATER: 26C (80F); pH 6.5-7; dCH < 1 (peat extract may be added).

OTHER BREEDING INFO: The males are aggresive during the spawning period and in a small aquarium may thrash unripe females to death. This does not happen if the fish are in a shoal and in a large aquarium. Therefore in a smaller breeding tank if fish don't spawn within 24 hours it is recommended to take the pair out and repeat the process later. As with other species of fish succesful breeding depends on the carbonate hardness dCH; if the dCH is less than 1 the percentage of undeveloped eggs increases. The females are prolific, particulary those that are regularly spawned. The eggs are about 1mm and sticky. The incubation period is about 36 hours (1 1/2 days). You should feed the fry nauplii of brine shrimp or Cyclops, the young fish grow rapidly, in 14 days they reach a length of 0.39" (1CM) and are conspicuously banded.
