A True Horror Story
Submitted by Julia Starbuck
After maintaining three tanks. I new I was ready to accept responsibility of my friends tank. 75 Gallons was nothing, baby sitting is easy. But what I was in store for I never expected. I took care of this tank for over 8 months. it became mine after a while. I grew attached to the 18 fish gave them names celebrated their birthdays. One night I did my regular nightly ritual. Turned out the light and laid in bed. Five minutes later my eyes just glanced toward my tank. Something shining at the bottom. At the time I didn't have many decorations So I was intrigued. I got up and turned on the light. I screamed. Topaz, my African Cichlid silver bellied stiff on his side. Fish floating, fish sinking, fish fighting, for their lives. I cried. Completely baffled as to what was going on. I grabbed my net and started chasing the ones still fighting. Only five survived. I researched this mass suicide. And spoke to many scientist. There was no reason for it. Believing in Karma, I got rid of the tank. Those five fish still live happy, healthy, over spoiled lives.
