My Favorite Sports

Golfing

Golf is a mental game. My friends and I have taken golf very seriously. I have to admit that golf is addictive but yet challenging.

Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu

Kungfu

Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu is truly amazing to learn and practice. Choy Lay Fut was originally developed as a secret, emergency combat style of Kung Fu used during the turbulent periods of civil war in China.  Choy Lay Fut stresses fast and powerful stance transition coordinated with devastating combinations of smashing-swing fists, punches, animal strikes, kicks, grabs, and throws.  Considered as a Southern Style Chinese Kung Fu system, Choy Lay Fut offers the benefits of Northern Kung Fu style footwork, sweeps and kicking techniques coupled with Southern style’s strong, over powering hand techniques. It contains open hand and palm strikes developed by the Chinese Monks, and Shaolin animal techniques such as the tiger, dragon, snake, crane and leopard.

I am currently attending classes at Lee Koon Hung Kung Fu school in Boynton Beach, Florida.  Master Li Sui Hung and Head Instructor Joe Keit are the best.  There are ten levels that I have to master and advance. Many hand techniques and fighting forms are taught the same way the Shaolin monks do in China.  I am level two now and hope to get pass the Shaolin Staff before advancing to the next level.

Kung Fu

Tai Chi Chuan

Tai Chi is widely practiced in China and other parts of the world for centuries. Originally derived from martial arts, Tai chi is practiced in slow continual fluidic movement.  Muscles and joints are in motion, and breathing is regulated as an integral part of this. The effect is a sedative upon the central nervous system, which helps to stimulate improvements upon the body's other systems.  It is calming and de-stressing, the movements themselves becoming physical poetry to a meditative process.  When practicing properly, Chi energy is increased and one often feels a "tingling" of fingers and toes, and a warming of the body.
The mind becomes clear, and relaxed.  The movements give practically a means for motor control, balance, and can help posture and loosen tight muscles.

Susan and I are drawn to Tai Chi because it is a low-impact exercise but yet very effective, flexible, practical and in harmony with the nature. Rosie and Joe Keit are wonderful instructors who patiently teach us the right way to the Fu style forms.

Ballroom Dancing

Dance sport becomes more popular and widely accepted among our peers. Susan and I have taken over 20 months of classes in Waltz, Fox Trot, Cha Cha, Rumba, Mambo, East Coast Swing, Hustle, and Samba. We enjoy ballroom dancing and have plans to continue our lessons in the near future.

Bowling

I took up bowling lessons in Tampa and joined the small league back in 1998. My best score with the conventional ball was 210. I will try the fingertip ball one day.

Scuba Diving

Florida is a perfect place to scuba dive. I got my certification in 1998. My favorite spots are at the Breakers hotel in West Palm Beach and Key West. Hawaii is also nice. Better yet, check out southern beaches in Thailand.
