John acquired 300 acres called Dorman's Delight frm Thomas Purnell on 3/10/1675. He acquired 1000 more acres called Defrey's Neck from the Henry Bowman Estate on 12/6/1694. At this time he also received 1000 acres located on Barnwell Branch in Slaughter's Neck and called it "Nutter's Farm". He received 400 acres of "Attwater" located in Artichoke Hundred, Sussex County from his father's estate in 1702. Since he was the oldest son he may have received even more due to an old law called Primogenitor requiring the oldest son to receive the largest part of the estate.

NOTE: Sussex County, Delaware previously was Dorchester County, Maryland prior to 1767.

John and Christopher each received 500 acres from their fathers estate. They had their 1000 acres of Bowman's Farm re surveyed and each got 428 acres on 2/20/1716. John sold his 428 acres to his brother Christopher on 5/17/1717 for 300 pounds ( then the currency of America). There is some indication that they had two other children named Mary and Christopher.
