Old Timey Horse Remedies

 

THRUSH, use Clorox in a spray bottle, spray underside of hooves.

Jello mixed in the feed will help HOOVES grow.

 

Baking soda sprinkled on top of the grain will help with those horses who require floating very often.

 

Jump poles can be made out of PVC PIPE.


Gallon milk jugs make excellent RING MARKERS

 

Old car mats: use under foot when at shows to APPLY Hoof Black.

 

To clean your leather, use Murphys Oil Soap.

 

Rusty tools? Soak overnight or longer in kerosene.

 

Clean bits safely? Put 2-3 cups whole oats in a bucket, bury bit, scrub bit with oats. Will safely clean and shine bit.

 

Plain toothpaste SHINES silver.

 

Wisk, for white/gray markings...be sure to rinse well.

 

Simple Green will REMOVE grass stains.

 

WD40 will shine up manes and tails and let you remove burrs and pine sap.

 

Preparation H- Aids in reduction of proud flesh and encourages hair growth on wound sites.

 

Meat tenderizer, make into paste for bee stings and bites.

 

Sugar and Iodine, mix into paste, use on scrapes and burns, Sugar does not allow it to dry out and the iodine fights infection.

 

Sugar water for blisters or scrapes. Mix sugar water with aloe vera gel and wrap in place over wound.

 

Listerine for tail rubbing....apply to tail and let soak

 

Corn oil will help a hair coat, up to two cups will add weight to a hard keeper.

 

Aloe vera cream, lotion or gel, use on bald spots.

 

Baby oil or Vaseline in bridle path will help stop dryness.

 

Repel bugs, add two tablespoons garlic powder and apple cider vinegar to evening feed.

 

Try witch hazel for liniment in rubdowns.

 

Peppermint body rub.... 3 tablespoons oil of peppermint, 1 bottle wintergreen rubbing alcohol, 1 lg peppermint candy cane. Put oil and candy in alcohol allow to dissolve, add to one quart of water.

 

Liniment recipe2...... 2 pints clear alcohol, 2 pints wintergreen alcohol, 2 pints witch hazel, 1/2 bottle store bought liniment, pour all into clean one gallon container, top off with white vinegar.
