During
the year, the "Girls on the Move" group toured Manitoba
Schools to encourage young womens' involvement in sports and
to promote health and fitness for girls ages 9-18. Girls
on the Move - is a program launched in the fall of 2000
to unite women of all ages in a demonstration of physical, mental
and emotional health.
Points
to Consider when girls are active:
75%
more likely to graduate from high school
80% less likely to have unwanted pregnancies
92% less likely to be involved with drugs. (Source:

Skills to consider from active involvement:

Parents, rather than peers or the media,
influence their daughter's lives and life choices. Family and
community members provide influences for girl's decisions. Innate
abilities within each individual need choices for success. Differences
in achievement come from different expectations for success and
different experiences. Support for smart lifestyle choices begins
in early adolescence through family and communities.
