Who's Your Daddy? Leave it to three
Northwest boys and a kid from Orange County to answer that. Kyle Andrews
(guitar), Skeeter McClellan (drums), Kevin Mackey (vocals) and Ben Deitzen
(bass) got together in 2000 and the world will never be the same. Who's
Your Daddy? blends the popular pop-punk stylings of modern day mainstream rock
with some funky hard-edge crunch, a bit of straight-forward punk, some catchy
pop influence, and a hint of California surf punk vibe. They have a killer
sounding 10 song demo that was recorded at Cottonwood Studios in Tacoma, and an
impressive list of shared bills. These guys won a band contest that landed
them on the Ernie Ball Stage at the Gorge for the Warped Tour. They have
split bills with Blink 182, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Goodness, Sweetwater, Super
Deluxe and Fighting Machinists. Who's Your Daddy? throws down fun,
entertaining tunes without taking themselves too seriously. Keep an eye
out for these guys. With the tide rolling in the favor of the pop-punk
scene these days, it wouldn't be shocking to see these guys make something
happen.

Who's Your Daddy?
Chances are, it's none of the guys in this band, who look as if they just
got off the baby train themselves. Young 'uns they might be, but Kyle,
Skeeter, Kevin and Wil are already making their musical mark on the greater Sea-Tac
area, where they've opened for The Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Blink 182, Goodness
and other notable acts. Those familiar with the NW music scene know that
The Cherry Poppin' Daddies have about as much in common with Blink 182 as Pee
Wee Herman has with Hannibal Lecter, prompting the question, how?
Diversity, that's how. Their songs run a gamut that defies categorization,
giving us guitar-churning punk one listen, metallic melodic pop the next,
swaggering hip-hop the very next. Hard to pin down, easy to listen to -
and Ms. Jones isn't the only one who thinks so. Who's Your Daddy? won a
regional contest last year that put them on the bill at the Warped Tour 2000
show in the Gorge Amphitheater. See what all the fuss is about tonight at
the Blue Heron.

Who’s Your Daddy? EP
Self-released
There’s a reason
this is EP self-released.
If you’re in the
mood for sub-Sublime ska-rock, if the Red Hot Chili Peppers make you think too
hard, if the Mighty Mighty Bosstones are too original for you, Who’s Your Daddy?
is your band. If you’re having a frat party, and the first keg is tapped out by
the time the Who’s Your Daddy? starts, their music will undoubtedly be your
fellow revelers favorite artists of all time – although no one will admit to
liking them the next morning. They’re not even that bad at their instruments,
which makes it all the more sad – if they sack the lead singer (they’ve got to;
there’s no saving a guy who wants to “flow” so badly) and buy some decent
records, maybe their next CD-R (yes, I said CD-R) will be worth hearing. Until
then, aspiring to be a band who themselves had no aspirations to begin with is
just…well… sad. (3/10) – BO’B
