At the school
she met and quickly feel in love with teammate Scott Summer, however both
were too shy to make the first step and wasted time together until they
finally admitted to each other their true feelings. After she and
most of the original X-Men were captured by Krakoa, and then rescued by
new recruits to the X-Men she decided to leave the school behind.
She still carried on a relationship with Scott however. Leaving the
school behind did not mean leading a normal life as she was soon abducted
by Sentinels, as were the other X-Men. They were all brought to a
space station where they managed to escape but after stealing a ship something
tragic happened. The shuttle had to travel though a radiation storm,
Jean in the cockpit flew the ship while using her telekinetic abilities
to keep everyone else safe. Succumbing to the effects of the radiation
in a unprotected cockpit Jean was contacted by the force known as The Phoenix,
who then created an identical body to Jean's and copied her memories and
personality. Phoenix then crash landed the ship into New York harbor
and placed Jean's suspended animation body in a pod at eh bottom of the
harbor. When the Phoenix became insane Jean's remaining persona was
able to cause the entity to sacrifice itself.
Eventually the Avengers found the pod, and Reed Richards helped Jean release herself. She reunited with Scott and helped form X-Factor but all later reteamed with the X-Men. Jean and Scott soon married and then their spirits were taken 2000 years in the future to help raise Scott's son, Nathan until he was almost a teenager. Many years later the 12 mutants who would change the history of the world were captured by Apocalypse. Before Apocalypse wa able to complete his plan Scott pushed X-Man out of the way and took the full blunt of the effect and ended up merging with Apocalypse. Jean still felt her husband inside of Apocalypse and stopped the X-Men from killing the tyrant, but his teammates presumed him dead. It was only Jean and Cable (Scott's son from the future Nathan) that believed Scott was still alive. With Jean and Cable's help Scott was able to free himself from Apocalypse and return to the X-Men.
Jean's powers
are increasingly growing, and her relationship with Scott seems to be increasingly
deteriorating.
