The humanoid inhabitants of Benzar have been members of the United Federation of Planets since shortly before 2364. Benzites are set apart by their pale-blue and orangish coloration. Benzar's atmosphere contains certain trace gases which are inert for most humanoids, but essential to Benzites; until 2373, members of the species that left their homeworld had to wear devices which could supply them with the needed gases. Benzites have feelers protruding from their upper lips and earlobes. They also have two opposable thumbs on each hand. To members of other species, Benzites from the same geostructure can look identical. Within the Benzite military, it is customary for a solution to be developed before a problem is presented to superiors. In 2374, Benzar was liberated from occupying Dominion forces by the Romulans.
