NAME: Breen HOMEWORLD: Breen POLITICAL AFFILIATION: Breen Confederacy CLASSIFICATION: Warp Level PREMIERE EPISODE: "The Loss [TNG]" |
The Breen are described as one of the most warlike of species. Their territory is located in the Alpha Quadrant, near the Cardassian Union.
HOMEWORLD
The Breen homeworld, also called Breen, is said to be a frozen wasteland, inhospitable to most forms of life. However, the Cardassians maintained an embassy there, and Dominion representative Weyoun claimed the planet was a pleasant temperate world.
BIOLOGY
Physically, the Breen are very mysterious. In M-class environments they wear cold-suits that completely cover them. It is known that Breen don't have blood, perhaps because of the extremely cold temperatures on their homeworld. Breen are telepathically unreadable by Betazoids
CULTURE
Breen females are commonly pregnant at a young age and delaying pregancy is seen as socially unacceptable. The Breen write nursery rhymes for their young in their unusual language, which sounds like a series of atonal musical notes to outsiders. Breen technology is relatively advanced. Their ships are based on organic technology and employ electro-magnetic weapons capable of causing systems failures in enemy vessels. They also have cloaking capability and use conventional type-3 disrupters like Klingons and Romulans. The Breen are experts in cold storage techniques.
HISTORY
Breen facilities are maintained throughout their territory, including the Dozaria and Portas systems. Contact between the Breen and other species was usually restricted to Breen raids for technology and slaves prior to 2375. In that year, late into the Federation-Dominion War, the Breen joined the Dominion. Their unique weaponry and overt aggression temporarlily turned the tide against the Federation Alliance, but the Breen surrendered with their allies at the end of the year.
