A TalaxianThe Talaxian species evolved from an arboreal ancestor. Talaxians have a complex anatomy. Their lungs are attached to the spinal column at several points, making it almost impossible to perform transplants. They also have two hearts.

The Talaxians are known as a friendly, gregarious people. Their culture places a high degree of importance on family connections. The holiday of Prixin celebrates family togetherness. Talaxians believe that before a meal is shared, the story of its preparation should be shared. A common axiom is "the dream dreams the dreamer." Kirax, considered the greatest Talaxian writer, penned many widely-read parables.

Talaxians believe that upon death, they enter the Great Forest. At the center of the Forest stands the Guiding Tree where a close family member will lead the soul to meet the rest of its ancestors.

In 2356, the Talaxians surrendered to the Haakonian Order after the Order detonated the deadly metreon cascade over the heavily populated Talaxian moon Rinax. The Talaxians have continued interstellar activities however, and maintain colonies in several areas of the Delta Quadrant. The Borg Collective has assimilated a small Talaxian vessel in the Dalmine Sector. The Collective designated Talaxians Species 218.
