Xenological Index

Number of Cultures Currently Listed: 672

This is an index of all known cultures in the Milky Way galaxy. To be included in the index, a culture must be distinct enough to be easily recognized. Certain cultures consist of biologically related species like the Vulcans and Romulans, which have been separated long enough to diverge culturally.

Cultures are listed by:

THE CULTURE CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM

This system is a tool for evaluating a culture's interaction in a spacefaring context based on technology, organization and mobility (which is particualrly important in the context of spacefaring civilizations). This system is not designed to judge cultures' "value" or rate them hierarchically. Because the system is based on "ideal types," some cultures may deviate from the exact specifications of the classes.
