"I enjoyed the smooth intelligent acting and mature straight through the hoop direction which was summoned up during this fun and interesting community under sludge siege episode. The unfolding events of the story seemed to come to life like some bad stomping golem, even though this was, for the most part, your basic "Twilight Zone" anti-conformity piece. The direction and acting was so competent that I felt as though I was caught in a landfill and couldn't move. Thought provoking intelligent execution can add a lot to the proceedings which take place on the screen. You really don't see acting and direction like this that often on television, which is a shame. This is television as an art form, as nonconformist as Mulder's crooked mailbox. All in all though, this episode of the series is nothing new, just a classy twist on what has come before. As a side note- A little dog popped out of a sewer in this episode. In the last episode it was a cat out of a washing machine. What's wrong with these writers? Can't they stop doing this. As a horror movie fan I'm so tired of seeing this cheap and boring attempt at a scare tactic on a consistent basis in horror movies and television shows. Also, enough already with the cutsey Mulder and Scully asides where the writers play with their relationship in useless ways that add neither real amusement or nothing substantial to the show."

"What a brilliant, fun-loving story was this! A classic episode that proudly displayed its evolving humor while creating a homecoming for its long-standing fans. The framework was familiar to us fanatics, while the humor was subtly spread about that rarely gave you a moment to enjoy the entire joke. I think Duchovny got to play around with his character much more with this episode, he seemed to actually have fun and was very comfortable. His jokes toward Scully as his wife were hilarious, showing us a part of Mulder that just may indeed desire this kind of relationship. The monster was of typical X-Files lore, yet was able to sustain the intensity needed to really be an engaging X-Files episode. Anderson's quick glances of confusion and I-can't-believe-I-put-up-with-this facial expressions gave us perfect insight into her feelings about the entire x-file, while showing us her attitude towards Mulder's prankish antics. A perfect episode in my mind, it even makes a Duran Duran reference: Arcadia. What more could I ask for? Although I wouldn't mind seeing a Star Destroyer descend upon the unwitting inhabitants of Earth..."

"I enjoyed this episode very much. It was more the spirit of the original XF episodes. I especially love the banter between Scully and Mulder. And, I loved that Mulder was more of his old self... easily bored and a pain to Scully. Not that being a pain to Scully is necessarily a good thing, it's just that Mulder's 'spirit' was dead for a long time now. I know fans have all kinds of nitpicks about this episode, but I don't care. The only nitpick I have was the monster. I kept thinking of the wise trash heep in 'Fraggle Rock' and of the tree guys in the 'Detour' episode. They could have done much better on the monster. It looked too much like a man in a camoflage type thing, like in 'Rambo.' Yeah, most of the episodes lately have been done before by someone else: 'Monday' was like 'Groundhog Day,' but XF gives them a whole new twist."

"I love the fact that Mulder and Scully go under cover as a married couple. The combination of Mulder's marriage jokes, with Scully's very scary facial treatments, and the usual X-Files weirdness makes for an excellent episode."

"Wonderful episode! Reminded me of "The Burbs." But I'm surprised that more people didn't notice the rip off of the names from the 'Dick Van Dyke Show.'"

"I thought this was one of the best episodes of the series. It was comical yet serious. And the way Mulder and Scully acted as Man and Wife was really cool."

"Cool episode. Nice change of scenarios for 'The X-Files.'"

"Creepy, suspenseful, and 'trashy'... could it get better?"
