"A tale of ear plug inducing government paranoia that covers a long stretch of highway yet never really hits the gas pedal of suspense to create the necessary driving intensity, this episode has a Wellsian " War of the Worlds " C.O.P.S. and X-Files crossover beginning. The X-Files always gains a power surge when it blurs the distinction between reality and its own warped base. Blurring the X-Files with reality based television is just an extension of what the show has been doing since day one to great effect. The atmosphere created by the look of the show which is evident in this episode gives a long needle injection into the ear of the commonplace and makes the show compelling to watch. The termination of the X-Files as well as the creation of another Skinner type character are both useless as far as adding anything to the show and, in fact, are more of an annoyance. It would be better to concentrate on pure story and the artful way the show is shot than on such time wasting plot contrivances. You have to give the shows producers credit though, they are continually trying to come up with new stuff, nothing ear drum shattering so far this season, but enough to make the great American trek quoter Horace Greely shout, "Go West Young Man!" until your ears bleed."

"This one was way too simple for our dynamic duo. It had a plain and simple
(relatively speaking) explanation for why this guy went psycho and why heads
were busting up. Plus, I didn't like the COPS-like introduction. I was
waiting for the announcer from REALTV to start blabbing about what amazing
footage this is."

"This was the best Monster of the Week since 'All Souls.' Good music, and Scully with the hazmat guys was classic. David Duchovny was great in this one too."

"I thought the storyline was interestiong, but they could have done more with it."

"I'm not a fan of this episode. The plot was korny to me."
