Post-Modern Prometheus

"I am absolutely certain that this episode will go down as a classic not only within the realm of "The X-Files", but within the the realm of television itself. It was, without a doubt, one of the most bizarre things I've seen in my entire life, but therein lies the genius. The hour managed to be hilarious and sad, happy and confusing, subtle and cheesy at at once. Chris Carter has totally restored my faith in him this season, and this episode was a tour de force of writing and directing. Who else could put Frankenstein, Cher, Scully and Mulder dancing, people named Izzy and Booger, and the Great Mutato all in one episode and pull it off! This story couldn't have been told on any other series out there, and I salute Mr. Carter for having the gut to to it! First, the funny aspects. From the comic book beginning, I knew we were in for a wild ride. But with Jerry Springer obsessive town folk, JJ's (with TWO J's) Diner, the angry mob, the allusion to some of the town people being the product of humans crossed with barnyard animals, the mad scientist (BRILLIANTLY cast, but where was Elaine), and the FauxCher concert at the end all clinched it for me. And not only did the episode leave me laughing, it made me sad as well. Consider the troubles of the poor Great Mutato. All he ever wanted was a little love. I felt a lot of sympathy for the 'monster' when his 'father' was killed. I also appreciated that Mulder told Mrs. Berkowitz that he wasn't sure he still believed in aliens. A great bit of continuity. But, we got the happy ending we all wanted, that to Mulder asking to see the writer (was I the only one waiting for Carter to stick his head in the door). Even though I'm not quite sure that the end really happened, or that ANY of the episode happened, for that matter, I stilled loved it! When's the last time an episode of 'The X-Files' left me smiling like that at the end! And how about that dance between our two favorite agents? Wonderful! I'm afraid I'll wear my tape out! This is definitely turning into the Season of the Shipper and I hope they keep it up. Scully's surprised face when Mulder shyly extended his hand to her was priceless, but soon the surprise turned into a full-out smile, and finally, they both lived a little. It seems as though since Scully's cure that both of them are more willing to try things, to smile, and to LIVE rather than simply exist. And the show's improved a hundred percent for it. Thank you, Chris, for the continuity. And man, the man can dance! What I would have given to be Scully. "Walking in Memphis", sung by Cher no less, doesn't seem like the most damceable song out there, but Mulder and Scully certainly managed. My little Shipper heart is content for another week. This was a wonderful episode that has just taken its place in my top ten! THIS is one of the episodes we'll still talk about twenty years from now. And as season five continues to pick up steam with the cure of Scully's cancer, a restoration of faith, a revamping of The Quest, and a renewal of the partnership, things can only get better! Hang on folks, for the ride of your life!"

"I used to love the Twilight Zone as a kid. When you saw Rod Serling standing there with that matter-of-fact pose, puffing on a cigarette like a young Cigarette Smoking Man, you knew you were in for something interesting. Oh, are you going to take the main road, well, why don't you take this path here, it leads into...the Twilight Zone. Ha. Ha. That smug look on his face. One of the best things about the Twilight Zone was it's use of black and white. The black and white of the Twilight Zone was gorgeous, but nothing, I mean nothing beats the beautiful black and white displayed in this episode. It helped create just the right atmosphere for what you knew would be a twisted trip through the world of the X-Files. Submitted by Chris Carter (with a smug look on his face), for your approval, a tale of two F.B.I. agents and a Post-Modern Prometheus, black and white like you've never seen it. Chris Carter, James Whale has got nothing on you."

"'Post-Modern Prometheus' has all the elements of a classic horror movie--a monster, a crazy professor/doctor, the comedy, and the black and white! I loved the different camera angles, the different film, the different approach to the story, the different everything! Yes, we Shippers were in Heaven once again. The last scene with Mulder and Scully dancing to "Walking in Memphis" by Cher was so...good! This stuff only happens in fanfic! Maybe Chris is getting some ideas from us. And the fade in into the comic was really great! Once again, great Emmy deserving acting by David, Gillian, and the guest stars-especially Jerry Springer. And yes, Mulder should get a 900 number!"

"'Post-Modern Prometheus' was very unusual, but very interesting. It was funny and USTfilled. Come one, I know you all saw that scene where Mulder and Scully are dancing. I loved that. Mark Snow's fun score added to this episode which was hilarious yet scary. The whole idea of the modern day monster getting women pregnant was very eerie. I loved the ongoing joke about Jerry Springer. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson turned in great performances in this episode. Their acting gave us the impression that they also had fun making this episode. I had to give it a 9 instead of a 10 because there were a few slow parts, but, overall, I loved it. This episode was a great one to lead into the next episode, 'Christmas Carol'."

"I give props to writer Chris Carter, and the actors, Duchovny and Anderson. I thought the classic black and white episode was great, and once again the wit of Duchovny and Anderson had me laughing out loud. I thought this monster to be a good one, and I liked the plot very much. The music was fantastic! It was the best music I've heard in an X-Files. The music was awkward for the show, and thus made me realize how awkward the scene was. This was a classic episode, and I hope to view it many more times, each time finding it funnier than the next."

"I felt that the ending was a little rushed in order to leave room for the last scene. I also thought it was a little corny with Mulder saying he didn't like the ending and "where was the writer". There was much creativness. And it was a feel good episode, something we don't see much for X-Files. When Mulder said "I don't know if I even believe in that stuf anymore" (meaning aliens) I was crushed. It will be a sad day on X-Files when the rest of us aren't fired by Mulder's passionate beliefs. I see an awsome two-parter coming up that will resolve this though."

"Wow. That episode left me speechless. I really liked the black and white, but what stuck me most about the episode was the music. The music when they entered the Dr's house.. the diner.. all of the Cher stuff. The last few seconds were quite funny and left me thinking that Chris Carter is a huge tease. (Scully and Mulder dancing) I can't even imagine how hard it must have been to film that scene. Wow."

"It was great! My favorite episode. I loved the part when they danced. It was so sweet! I liked the plot. The black and white old horror movies plot was great too! When they danced it was a shippers dream come true! I can almost hear shippers around the world (Like me and my sister) squealing with delight! Great!"

"I really didn't like the story part of this weeks show, but I loved it in black and white, it made it feel a little more erie. If the story was a little different it would have scored high in my book!! I think he should make more black and white shows every once and a while to give it that effect."
-Ryan D.-

"I liked the episode, and everything Chris Carter was trying to carry off happened. It was a weird episode, but that's why I like the X-Files: Weird, irreverant stuff like this."
-Adam B.-

"Very cool! I love the dancing scene!!"
