Loom: Front View

This is the side of the loom from which it is worked, standing of course. This loom is currently being used to weave a yard-wide strip of carpet, but could easily accomodate the making of a full-sized rug, or bolt of cloth twice as wide to any length desired. Shown below are some of the accessory tools used in weaving, which if not left attached to the work may be hung from the sides of the loom or from the weaver's belt:


The Shuttle, used for passing the weft threads between the warp threads.


A Bobbin, this one carved in the stylized form of an Irekei woman's head; one used for each color of thread in a piece under construction.


The Beater, used for packing down the weft.
