She found shelter with the mutant shape shifter Mystique, who unofficially adopted her. When Rogue grew older, she was included in Mystique's terrorist group the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. In a battle with Carol Danvers, the original Ms Marvel, Rogue absorbed her powers and memories. Although for some reason, she kept this powers permanently. She also kept a copy of Ms Marvel's psyche, which remain within her until it resurfaced years later.
Rogue grew increasingly upset over her lack of control of her powers and fears that Danver's psyche would overwhelm her own, and finding that the Brotherhood could not help her, she turned to her former enemies, the X-Men. Professor X allowed her to join the team, and she swiftly proved herself to be a loyal member.
She has remained a member of the team, not withstanding a few temporary absences, although she has still not learned to control her powers. Her passage through the "Siege Perilous" has rid her of Danvers psyche.
Rogue spent some time in the prehistoric Savage Land while the X-Men were temporarily disbanded. Here she formed a relationship with reformed villain Magneto, although this ended when Magneto returned to a life of terrorism. She returned to the X-Men, where she met new member Gambit. The two fell in love, although they have drifted apart in recent times.
After experiencing short moments of life without her powers, and knowing the touch of others, Rogue has become keen to control them, seeking out other, sometimes less than
reputable, methods of control than those supplied by Professor X. Although her attempts have so far proven unsuccessful.
