Campaign Statistics

After many years of working and reporting to middle-managers and executives... occasionally being one (of the former, anyway ;-) ), one thing I have observed in life is a preponderance on behalf of those in charge to not only like to see stats, but to rely on them. Despite the shaky ground they stand on, many use them as the basis on which to build arguments. Stats can prove alot. But they can also prove nothing.

Notwithstanding that little pointless blathering <g>, here's some facts and figures:

To date (as in 11:05pm Aus time, 15 Oct, 2000), 570 posts have been archived on the X-Philes for Mulder website:

These postings have originated from a wide variety of locales. Countries so far are:

Australia
Argentina
Belgium
Brazil
Canada
Caribbean, The
China
Denmark
England
Germany
Guatemala
India
Indonesia
Ireland
Israel
Italy
Japan
Luxembourg
Malaysia
Mexico
Netherlands, The
New Zealand
Philippines
Republic of Korea
Russia
Singapore
Spain
Sweden
Turkey
United Kingdom
United States

Go here for a list of locales within each country.

Needless to say, the majority of postings are from U.S. Philes. That would make it likely there are more U.S. Philes than elsewhere. And possibly true. But then not everyone who watches owns a PC or responded to this campaign - yet!. (So, we're optimistic <g>)

Of the 570 postings, the male to female mix:
Entries from male philes: 34
Entries from female philes: 488
Unknown gender entries : 48

Now, that would seem to indicate that female Philes greatly outnumber the male Philes, and probably a true indication if the online community is anything to go by. However, to be taken into consideration are input errors, the lack of interest in, or knowledge of, the campaign by males, of the lack of males into XF whom are online. OTOH, the 'male' part on the website was the default, so the male numbers could be exaggerated. <g>

As for the unknowns? Part of the chaos theory, perhaps? <g>

Onward.... bored yet? <g>

So, next we have the age break-up:
Aged between 1-17 years: 70
Aged between 18-34 years: 151
Aged between 35-51 years: 96
Aged between 52-71 years: 8
Unknown: 195

The last one is attributable to some entries where the Phile did not provide the info, but is largely a result of the first version of the guest book not asking the question. (as in 95% of the figure)

So... no huge surprises there.

A further break-up, male to female to age:
Of the 1-17 years age bracket: 3 Male, 63 Females, 4 Unknowns
Of the 18-34 years age bracket: 14 Males, 132 Females, 5 Unknowns
Of the 35-51 years age bracket: 5 Male, 91 Females
Of the 52-71 years age bracket: 1 Male, 7 Females

Which leaves us with:
11 Males, age unknown
195 Females, age unknown
39 People whose age and gender are unknown

What does it all mean? Well, as I said above - and y'all probably know -stats can be made to mean anything depending on the spin you want to put on it. But I bet the marketing people at FOX might be surprised, eh? <g> (Okay, so I bought one of the lunch boxes... but generally, for a largely 18-51 age group? )
