Xscape - A Soundtrack to the 90's

Xscape are Kandi Burress, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle, LaTocha Scott, and her sister Tamika. They first appeared on the r'n'b scene in 1993, with the smash single, "Just Kickin' It". Later that year, they released their debut album on So So Def Recordings, "Hummin' Comin' At 'Cha". Produced by Jermaine Dupri and Organised Noize, this album included the hits "Just Kickin' It", "Tonight", "Understanding", and "Love On My Mind".
The follow-up to Xscape's incredible debut came in 1995, and was called "Off The Hook". In my opinion, this is one of the greatest r'n'b albums of the decade. It included the hit singles "Feels So Good", "Can't Hang", "Who Can I Run To" and "Do You Want To". In the same year, "Who Can I Run To" reached the number one spot on The Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. Very little was heard from Xscape for the next three years, with only the occasional appearance on soundtracks, and cameos on MC Lyte's "Keep On Keepin' On" and Mariah Carey's "Always Be My Baby (So So Def Remix)". However, Xscape reappeared in May 1998 with the superb new album, "Traces Of My Lipstick". This album is slower than their first two, with more ballads. There have already been two singles released from this album, "The Arms Of The One Who Loves You" and "My Little Secret".

Still riding high from the success of "Traces Of My Lipstick", Xscape already have plans for the future. 2000 should see the release of solo albums by LaTocha, Tamika, Kandi, and maybe Tiny. The girls may reunite in the future to make a fourth Xscape album.
