Well, what can i say? Fortune Lake started out July 6-11 this summer. Me, Dan and Drew are always big fans of scoping out who is there and when I first arrived I saw many of the familiar faces i always do but with one less, and that person i was very sad not to see, Nicole. :( The whole week went by without her until thursday night when we got to see her for a few hours, still not enough for me. Besides her being gone there were a few others such as BRIANNA, LEXY, and MERIT??? Who at the last minute bailed out on us cuz they were too cool. Also missing this year was Rachel who I missed a lot, but she was in Germany and had a great time so that is fun for her! Besides those people that weren't there, we had a lot of people back that we knew including Aspen cabin, where we resided. In our cabin it was me, drew, dan(ugly), Phil(fro), Matt, Mark(phil), and Ben. 6 out of those 7 are kids that we new before and that were in Aspen the year before! The only person we were missing from before was Carl who is now a staff member (rock on Carl). The key to making any cabin fun is the counceler, this year we were all kind of nervous when we first met Chris. He seemed a little uptight and nervous, though he turned out not to be too baaaaaad, and i found myself midway through the week saying, "self, i think i like him". But onwards with the pointless story thingy! I will describe my daily events with y'all :p.
Sunday
This day was mostly spent getting to know everyone. There were a lot of Freshman there whcih was interesting, but fun! Also I met up with my old friends from years past. Hanna was the first one I saw, I spotted her and gave her a funny look as she had her crazy sunglasses on that protected her from getting some crazy eye desease that doesn't exist :p, i was happy to see her again, and glad i was able to keep in contact with her all winter even though she did DITCH ME! :p. Later I met up with Miki and she introduced us to the camp newcomer Kirsti. So the night continued and we had our crazy little dance thingy which was fun, got to meet some crazy people and the band there was excellent. One of our fortune lake traditions is "Sitting Strong", which we proudly kept intact again this year. Me, Dan, and Drew didn't dance at all! Midway through the dance I got bored and went out to meet someone, I looked around and saw a huge fro of blonde hair and went over and met Sally! I was sittin' there talking to her and she told me she lived a few blocks from a good frined of mind Corey, and i was amazed at the small world :p. After a couple minutes I got pulled on stage by the guitarist and told to sing, amazed that he would say such a thing i grabbed Sally and had her sing for me then quickly hid again! Before the night was over we played a game of Capture the Flag in whcih my team was able to win, and summed up the night with an awesome campfire down by the beach.
Monday
Another exciting day, it was my cabins turn to setup for breakfast so we missed morning devotions *SHUCKS*, after breakfast we had a pretty good day getting to know everyone and what not, i can't remember many of the details at all so I'll leave monday short, and all you people that were there please refresh my memory!
Tuesday
Tuesday was the day of our overnight, during the day i found out some shocking secrets...sally.. but its all good, and the overnight was AWESOME. Our canoe trip there was record slow as Dan, me, and Drew kept as slow as posible, Chris was our only motivation for even going as we knew that he wasn't alloud to stop until we did. When we finally got there, we set up the tents, and tried out sleeping, it was O.K.. Me, Drew, Dan, Phil, and Matt all stayed in the same tent, told some good storys, jokes, and revelations(maybe not, but its a cool word). After testing out our sleeping quarters we all got up, but when we were out and by the fire we realized we were one short, Dan stayed behind. He ended up sleeping through the night, and made this year at FLLC much more unjoiable as he was not tired all week after that 13 hour nap. After seeing some crazy wildlife, including a badger or something that got into our food we all went to bed.
Wednesday
Finally we were up and ready to head back to camp. We were this time determined not to be as slow as we were last time, and we stayed true to that! We started out pretty far back, but before the trip was over we were able to catch up and pass everyone, and get back to camp the fastest :p. After putting away our canoes and setting up the tents we continued with a fun day full of exciting things. During the day i hung out by the beach with Sally, Ashley, and Amy. That was a lot of fun, but i think there was a little too much purple... ahhhh nevermind i think more purple woulda been fun, but there was a little too much atomic pink.. or something :P. That night was the _________ dinner (someone please help me with that word!), and the traditional apparal for me and Dan is skirts and tight shirts to show off our racks. That was interesting, and we had a little more than that this year, but i don't think I should say it here ;). After that dinner we took our huge team photo, where all of us high schoolers gathered in one place. After that I'm not sure what happened someone please remind me :s.
Thursday
This was our last full day, and everyone knew it. All those people that can't come back again had to face this harsh realization. The day started out very average, we were of course very late to wake, and missed most of devotions, but i caught a little bit and was proud to be a Cow during our crazy little game. The days main event was Water Olympics. This game pairs you up with another cabin and makes you go through various obsticles to warm up in the sun and get wet. My cabin was against Ash cabin and a bunch of girls, we loved it. The first 5 events belonged to us as we dominated the boat races, even with Phil :p. Then we creamed them during the Diving thanks mainly to Mark and Ben. The third event was all us again, we had to make a "water fountain" where people spit and tried to make it look pretty, us being guys did a great Austin Powers Rendition and won the competition easy. Next up was limbo in which i was able to get us far, and Ben finished STRONG. Finally the last event was making sand castles. We had a half hour and we knew we were hopeless during this competition. So we decided to make a scoreboard that read 4-1, showing us still the winners, though the girls still had a little glory. To our surprise the judge liked ours better, and we had a 5-0 lead, we changed our scoreboard and enjoyed the sweet taste of victory! As the day went on we were anticipating the arrival of our friend Nicole, and through the day we mentioned her all the time. Dinner was dress up dinner, all the ladys put on there little skirts, while the boyz grabbed there polo shirts and tucked em' in :o. This is the usual moment of pictures EVERYWHERE, and i took a few. After dinner we were getting ready for the traditional "Gods Cafe" where everyone showed off there skills as a person, my personal favorites included, Hannas poetry, which i will see if i can post some here, but it was AWESOME, i was very impressed with her. Another cool one was Mandys cabins singing performance in which they successfully mocked most all of the staff members, including Sallys version of Soren which i still laugh about that tampon made my week. Another impressive song was when Miki and Kirsti's cabin sang out a song that got me laughing, i liked it. The final thing i want to mention is Chris singing, he sang us to sleep in the cabin, but this performance infront of everyone was touching. In the middle of Gods Cafe NICOLE ARRIVED! I was so excited to see her, she was in good spirits after her 5 hour drive. She also sent us mail earlier in the week, which i was happy about :p. After Gods Cafe we moved into the Chapel and did the traditional Zipper Hug, in which you get two chances to hug all of those people you will miss so much, this years was in my opinion the best yet as the people were awesome. My favorite was the huge group hug in the middle of the circle, Chris got a bit.. "touchy", but it was still fun. After that we had an hour and a half of down time before we had to go to our cabins. This was crazy everywhere you went there were staff members looking for ppl kissing, luckily i didn't get caught.. i mean i wasn't doing it.. or something. That time was fun and then when we were in for the cabins me and dan got in our traditional night outfits, and laughed. This night was a little different as Chris was sick of seeing us like that, so he finally put an ended to it as he chased me to my bed and grabbed me and threw me outside. Outside it was cold, dark, and i was not wearing clothes. Thinking this was bad enough i turned around and realized the head counceler had been on makeout duty tonight, and was sitting in her car with Nicole watching and waiting for people to sneak out. I hadn't snuck out, but they had seen enough, they honked and flashed there lights at me, all i can say was "it was cold".
Friday
Friday was VERY short lived, my cabin woke up almost a full hour later than planned and for that reason we totally missed devotions, but did catch at least half of breakfast :p, people were busy talking about last nights events including the prank of this year, which I can't mention here, but I do wanna give mad credit to the Visor Boys for pulling that off so well. *cheers* After breakfast i was back at the cabin and we realized we had to leave early, 2 hours earlier than planned. So that pretty much ended our week, we took one team picture of the people in our cabin and splitted ways forever, or until next year, our last year. :(
