What's in a name?

You may be wondering why I've decided to name this Bakura shrine "Ixion". You also may be wondering what that strange breathing noise emanating from your closet is, but I think I'll answer the former question first.

In Greek mythology, Ixion was a Thessalian king who fell in love with Hera, queen of the gods and goddess of women and marriage. Hera was the wife of Zeus, the supreme deity and king of the gods. When Zeus found out about this mortal Ixion falling in love with his wife, he punished Ixion to a torturous eternity in Hades, where he would be tied to a perpetually spinning wheel forever. Zeus was a big hypocrite in this sense, as any man, woman, or goat was fair game for him. Oh, well...

Bakura writing a letter to AmaneI thought Ixion would be a decent name for this place because of the story's obscure, but adequate, connection to Bakura. First of all, this Ixion guy fell in love with a beauty and power far beyond the realm of mortal man. This hasn't been confirmed, but I think that Bakura actually did fear and respect the power of the Millennium Ring and the spirit within, at first at least. Now, I'm not saying he fell in love with Yami B or something, you yaoi hentais. Rather, sometime before (I guess) Bakura received the Ring from his father, his younger sister Amane died in a car accident. At some point in the manga (I haven't read it, but I've seen scans and read stuff... See right -->) Bakura is writing a letter to Amane. Sounds a little abnormal, certainly, but understandable. Knowing Bakura, he probably loved his little sister dearly, and when she died, his love for the occult was fashioned out of grief. This interest comes out in his deck choice, peculiar for his outward personality. The way I see it, Bakura may secretly want Yami B to succeed in collecting the seven Millennium Items to become uber powerful. Once all was said and done, perhaps Bakura could let on that he did a favour for the spirit by allowing him to use him as a vessel, so Yami B would owe him one. The request? Perhaps the revival of his little sister.

'Show me the way, my Ring...'Well, I may be grabbing for straws here, but it's an interesting theory. You would think that if Bakura was dead-set against Yami B succeeding, he would try to fight or throw the Ring away, or something. Although, Bakura is a lover, not a fighter; and throwing the Ring away would be a completely useless maneuver as it would just come back, and who knows what kind of vengeance Yami B would inflict for pulling a stunt like that? Yami B wears the pants in that relationship, you might say. ^_^ Funny, seeing as when he was the King of Thieves, he wore a skirt, and Bakura's always wearing pants... But that's not important right now.

Now that Bakura has inextricably linked himself to the Ring, he has become tied to it and may be in for an eternity of torture.

Sound familiar?
