There were 40,000 people at the Metrodome on Saturday night. 40,306 to be exact. Actually, to be more exact, 40,305 people and Al Franken were at the Metrodome on Saturday night.

For some reason, that's not good enough for Bud Selig. He still wants to disband them. Never mind that they have great fans who - GASP! - understand the game of baseball and applaud for something other than homeruns. People who get more excited about a flawlessly executed sacrifice than a goddamned sausage race.

Twins win! Twins win!
Bud Selig is light years below Detroit in Steve and Jeff's books.

While of course not on most people's favorite ballpark lists, the Metrodome was near the top of Steve and Jeff's "best atmosphere" list following the Twins thrilling extra inning victory on Saturday night. The fans were in it from start to finish, on their feet and cheering for nearly every two-strike count on a Blue Jay, and giving long ovations to their favorite players.
The longest ovation, however, was saved for the end of the game. After blowing a four run lead, the Twins came back to win when Corey Koskie plated rookie sensation Bobby Kielty, who started the rally with a clutch single. There was never a dull moment in this game, as Twins lefty Eric Milton started off by striking out the side in the top of the first and
ended up throwing 4 1/3 perfect innings. The Twins took a 4-0 lead in the third on a rally fueled by five straight Twins hits - the biggest a two run double from YayBaseball2002.com MVP candidate Torii Hunter. But the Jays battled back with two runs in the sixth and again in the seventh, and our heroes were soon in the midst of their second extra frame contest. The Twins bullpen worked themselves in and out of trouble until
Twins still win!
Kielty and Koskie worked their magic in the 10th.

Just another routine day at the Metrodome which, if Bud Selig had his way, would have been empty until the Vikings kick off in September. Really, there was nothing better than visiting the Metrodome after visiting Bud Selig's Miller Park. Minnesota's fans are friendlier, smarter, and savvier when it comes to the game of baseball. Also, they're further away from Detroit.

But enough bitterness; this space should be used to celebrate the Twins, who finally seem to be getting the national attention they deserve. They have all but clinched their division and their first playoff berth since 1991 and, more importantly, have improved their 2002 In-the-Presence-of-Yay-Baseball-2002 record to a perfect 3-0.
