Mary Frances Maupin

Mary Frances Maupin Mary was born on Feb 4, 1921 and died on March 29, 1996. Mary was raised on a River Boat. Her mother was a cherokee Indian. Her dad was a Red-Headed Irishman.

Mary Frances had a rough time with 5 (Charles Curtis, Jack Maupin, Sam Maupin, Betty Jo Maupin and Dennis Maupin) small children when Frank Sr. passed away in 1952. They had no place to go after they had to move out of the small house that her and Frank were living in. They moved to Avondale and lived in the Shanties for a while, and it was really terrible there. Mary later married a man by the name of Windom Grace Sr. in March of 1954, and he moved them out of that terrible place. Betty Jo has told me that her stepfather was a very good man. Windom died in Oct of 1984 from cancer, when he was 82yrs old.

Betty Jo has told me that her mother was the best and that she really did have hard tims raising all of her children, she had 6 more (Windom Grace Jr., Martin Grace, Bill Grace, Earl Grace, Linda Grace, and Helen Grace) with Windom Sr. They all took turns helping each other. When one got married the next in line would work and help support the family.

All of them did what they could to see that their mother, Mary Frances, didn't want for anything. Betty Jo tried to get her to live with her in Georgia, but she had all those kids still living in Ashland,Ky and she didn't want to leave any of her children. Mary Frances lived with her son Sam. Mary had a stroke in Dec of 1994, two heart attacks in June of 1995, and she passed away with a heart attack March 29, 1996. They all loved and miss their mother very much; she was a loving and caring, hard working lady that was the best mother ever to 11 children. Mary Frances didn't have much as far as material things, but she had ia all, a big heart and a loving soul plus 11 children that loved and worshiped her.
