Why Neville?
  • This might sound ridiculous, but we definitely wouldn't expect him...
  • In the fourth book, when "Moody" put the Imperius Curse on him, he "performed a series of astonishing gymnastics", which he wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. "Moody" might've put an Imperius Curse on him in his office.
  • Victor Krum doesn't move on the ground as well as he does in the air, so Neville might be like that too. Then again, the flying scene in book 1...
Why not?
  • While Crouch was under the influence of the Veritaserum, he didn't mention putting the Imperius Curse on Neville while he was in his office. If he has to tell the truth, he should've mentioned it.
  • Neville's never been on the Quidditch team before.
  • Again, the flying lesson in the Sorcerer's Stone.
Why Ron?
  • Well, we all know he's the new keeper! :o)
  • Unexpected captain
  • He saw himself as Captain in the Mirror of Erised.
  • Maybe he'll turn evil or be put under the Imperius Curse sometime during the book. After all, he had particular trouble fighting off the curse in The Goblet of Fire.
Why not?
  • He hasn't been on the Quidditch team before either.
What about the Slytherin and Hufflepuff teams?
  • They're also lacking their captains for different reasons. Cedric's dead and Marcus Flint graduated.
  • It would be interesting if Malfoy became the captain of the Slytherin team.
