What is the format of class?

No two classes are the same, but to one extent or other there will be some form of breathing (pranayam), physical exercise (kriya) and meditation (simran). Classes run from 60 to 75 minutes.

Who will be my teacher?

Hari Nam Singh Khalsa will be your teacher for the vast majority of classes. He is admired for the inspiration, humor and passion he brings to his teaching. At times Hari Nam Singh will bring in experienced guest teachers who are both highly qualified and unique in their own right.

Is this a religion

Although a spiritual practice, Kundalini Yoga is not a religion. Many of the people who practice Kundalini Yoga happen to be Sikhs, distinctive in their appearance of uncut beards, turbans and white clothes. However, one does not have to be a Sikh to practice Kundalini yoga nor is there any pressure in that direction.

How many times a week should I come to class?

You are welcome to come to class as many times a week as you are inspired to do so. However, coming regularly one time a week is sufficient, provided you give it your best!

Should I practice at home the other days of the week?

Definitely recommended. You will learn and absorb much in class. However, like any other positive habit, the depth of the experience will be found in making it part of your daily life.

Is Kundalini Yoga compatible with other forms of exercise?

Yes. Kundalini Yoga will complement any other physical activity you engage in. This discipline has its own unique benefits, but we encourage people being active and athletic in any way that brings enjoyment and personal fulfillment.

Is there an ideal diet to accompany this practice?

Although not mandated, vegetarianism (no meat, fowl or fish) is highly encouraged, for both health and ethical reasons. This type of diet is very congruent with the goals and philosophy of yoga.

How about the use of alcohol or drugs?

Definitely a bad idea. Yoga and meditation clears the mind and brings vitality to the body. Intoxicants cloud the mind and numb the body. Enough said.

Are there manuals available to guide me in my home practice?

Once you learn the basics, there are very good manuals available that will help you get a home practice together. We can provide these valuable resources to you at a modest cost.
