The Indep
The Elite Among the Free League


        If you ask any Indep about the faction of the Free League, the first thing out of his mouth is that the Free League is not a faction.  It's just a loose association of cutters who have similar beliefs about freedom.  Every berk should be able to believe as he or she wants, and no one has the right to force their beliefs onto another (aside from the concept that all must be free).  They each take a stand for what they believe in, but what that is varies from Indep to Indep.  They moderate free trade in the Great Bazaar in Sigil, though none will admit it.  Don't try to be a Free Leaguer unless you strongly believe in freedom!

Class Skills:
        The class skills of the Indep (with key attribute) are: Bluff (Cha), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Gather Information (Cha), Hide (Dex), Innuendo (Wis), Knowledge [planes] (Int), Knowledge [local] (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Profession (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), Speak Language, Spot (Wis), and Use Magical Device (Cha).  Indeps get 8 + Int Modifier per level.

Class Features:
        All the following of the Defier prestige class:

        Weapon and Armor Proficiency:  Characters who take a level of Indep know how to use simple weapons and light armor.
        Resistant Mind:  Indeps natural rebel against any form of mind control.  Indeps gain a +2 bonus to saving throws against enchantments, and an additional +2 against mind affecting spells. (Ex)
        Information Network:  Upon reaching 2nd level, Indeps build local netrorks of information.  While in any area where the Indep has at least one rank in Knowledge [local] for the area, the Indep gains a +6 network modifier to all Gather Information checks.
        Merchant's Haggle:  Indeps of at least third level have trained in the Great Bazaar of Sigil and in Tradegate in the Outlands on the art of haggling.  These Indeps get a 20% reduction in price for any item or service they purchase. (Ex)
        Protection from Law:  Upon reaching 5th level, Indeps belief in freedom helps protect them from those of opposing alignment.  The Indep acts as if he were affected by a protection from law spell cast by a sorcerer of the Indeps class level.  (spell-like)
        Freedom of MovementIndeps of 6th level or higher are affected as if they had the continual protection of a freedom of movement spell upon them.  (spell-like)
        Know Class:  Once per day, Indeps of 7th level or higher may target one individual.  If the target fails a Will save (DC 18), the Indep knows what classes the individual has levels in.  How powerful the target is in each level is not revieled.
        Mind BlankAt ninth level, Indeps act as if they are protected by a mind blank spell at all times.  This spell-like defense can be raised or lowered as a free action at any time.
        Freedom:  At 10th level, and Indep may cast a freedom spell once per day as a sorcerer of level equal to the Indep's character level.  This spell-like ability is a standard action.
