During the Great Upheaval, 630 years ago, the Lady declared there would
only be 15 factions, and two groups joined together to form the Mercykillers:
the Sodkillers and the Sons of Mercy. The Sons of Mercy (note: title
is appropriate regardless of gender of faction member) were a group that
believed in justice tempered by mercy for everyone's protection.
During the recent Faction War, with the mysterious disappearance of Factol
Nilesia, the two group pulled away from each other again. The cruel
Sodkillers became the Minder's Guild, and the Sons of Mercy decided that
someone had to keep the streets safe, especially with the previous guards
of Sigil, the Harmonium, packing up to go to Arcadia. The Sons still
run the prison, but try to be fair with all individuals, something not
done by their predecessors. Are they too soft for the job and not
willing to get dirty? Only time will tell. It should be noted
the Sons membership is available to anyone interested (as they aren't a
faction), but this prestige class are for the elite of the guard and those
that take the creed of merciful justice to heart.

Class
Features:
All the following of the Son of Mercy prestige class:
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Characters who take a level
of Son of Mercy gain the ability to use all simple and martial weapons,
shields, and all armors.
Discern Lies: A Son of Mercy may ask one target a question,
the answer to the question the Son may know the truth of, as if he cast
Discern Lies (DC=15). The Son of Mercy may do with for one
question per day up to his class level. At 10th level, the Son may
use this supernatural ability at will.
Strike a Blow for Justice: A 2nd level Son of Mercy may Strike
a Blow for Justice. The Son declares he is making an attack a Blow
for Justice before rolling, and gains a bonus to hit equal to his class
level. Striking a Blow for Justice means it does half his class level
(round up) + his charisma modifier in extra damage. Additionally,
a Blow for Justice allows that any critical threat that comes from that
attack to automatically become a critical hit (no confirmation roll is
needed). This exceptional ability may be used once per day per class
level.
Command: Once
a Son of Mercy reachs 3rd level, he may use command (as a cleric
the same caster level as the Son's class level) once per day. He
may use this spell-like ability twice a day when he becomes a 6th level
Son of Mercy.
Brew Truth: At 4th level, a Son of Mercy gains the Brew Potion
feat (regardless of prerequisites) for the purpose of only one potion:
Potions of Truth, as described in the Dungeon Masters Guide.
Shocking Grasp: At 5th level, a Son of Mercy may cast
shocking grasp as a spell-like ability once per day. It is
cast as a sorcerer at the same class level as the Son of Mercy. (This
is usually used to help with a very unruly captive)
Locate Creature: A 6th level Son of Mercy can use locate
creature (like the spell cast as a cleric of caster level equal to
the Son's class level) once per day. This spell-like ability may
only be used to help hunt down a creature who has broken the law and is
fleeing.
Hold Monster: A 7th level Son of Mercy can use hold
monster (like the spell cast as a sorcerer of caster level equal to
the Son's class level) once per day. This spell-like ability may
only be used to help hunt down a creature who has broken the law.
Brew Blood of Justice: An 8th or higher level Son of Mercy
may brew the Blood of Justice. Any drinker or person cut by a blade
coated in the Blood must make both a Will save (DC=20), or begin confessing
any crimes the subject has knowledge of doing in the last 24-hours.
Each dose requires 50 GP and 100 XP to make.
Greater Command: At 9th level, the Son of Mercy gains
the spell-like ability to greater command (like the spell cast by
a cleric of the Son's class level) once per day.
