Speakers Bureau
The Speakers Bureau is the Heart of YOMO. They are a group of Shriners that will come to your organization and deliver a short talk and film about all the great things we do for children. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have about the hospitals or the Shrine in general. Donations are not necessary, but always appreciated. Here is a poem about our Hospitals.
"I Can Walk"
by Dudley Glass of Atlanta.
"The Shriners' doctor saw my legs, he didn't shake his head like most folks did. "We'll fix you up as good as new, he said. "We're awful poor," said Ma, "It's hard to pay for food and rent." "Give us that boy," the Shriners said, "It won't cost you a cent." I don't know how they did it, I'm not much on doctor's talk. I only know I used to crawl, and now, see, I can walk. I wonder why my mother cried when I went home so straight and fine. But through her tears, I heard her say, "God bless the Shrine."

Speakers’ Bureau…. The Speakers Bureau is the Main Purpose of YOMO. We are charged with providing talks to any organization that would like to hear about "The World’s Greatest Philanthropy" We have acquired new films featuring the St. Louis Hospital and the Cincinnati Burn Center and can’t wait to show it off. Nobles, you can assist us in getting dates and assignments. Please talk to any other Group you may belong to such as Church, Civic, Veterans, Service, School, and or Sports associations. We are not limited to Masonic ties and in fact will help to spread the word not only of the Hospitals but the Fraternity as a whole. Contact either Scott at 314-921-4323 / agiscot@earthlink.net or Tim at 636-685-6585 / ttalimon@mail.win.org if you are willing and able to assist.
Nobles from our group get to brag about "The World’s Greatest Philanthropy". We are all members of YOMO but serve Moolah by providing presentations to organizations who wish a speaker at their meetings. The cost to the group is priced just right, (free) and we manage to spread the word of what we do, how to get a hospital application or join the fraternity. For all of you who enjoy public speaking and meeting with people, this is the assignment you have been waiting for. Usually we get to visit during a dinner meeting and deliver a 10 to 15 minute talk, show a 10 to 20 minute film, have a 5-minute wrap up, and field questions from the group. It is as simple as that. We provide two speakers who bring a VCR Projector, films, and handouts. Pairing speakers allow us to give on job training for new members eager to give talks themselves. You can help us get out the word of what we can do for children. If you are like most Shriners you belong to many other organizations that we would love to talk to and show a film. Please approach those organizations and let them know we are available.
The organizations I refer to are, your Church, the PTA/ PTO, kids sports leagues, Veterans groups, what I call the critter clubs (Elks, Moose, Eagles, etc.), service clubs (Rotary, Kiawanas, etc.), and various Civic groups. We will gladly put on a presentation. All you have to do is ask. We also have applications for the hospital, the Fraternity, the Rites, and the Shrine with us. These talks are also helpful for recruiting members to help us with our great works. Please call Chairman Scott Fogerty at 921-4323 to schedule a date. The Speakers Bureau, YOMO, the Shrine, and our Kids will think you are super.
If it sounds a little like I am repeating myself it is just that I am a little enthusiastic about our capabilities and looking forward to raising awareness of our beloved Mission, TAKING CARE OF THE CHILDREN IN OUR CHARGE. Yes, there are still people out there who don’t know about Shriners Hospitals and the fact we do it at not charge.
Last month we gave a presentation to a Church’s Men’s Club to an enthusiastic audience. We will travel anywhere with enough notice to put on a presentation. Early evening weekday out state appointments are a minor problem, but with enough notice we will work to fit your schedule. We also assisted the Hospital screening clinic at Mathews Dickey in April bringing not only films but also our cars. We do anything to get attention.
Future assignments include the Fenton Fire Department for EMS week where we will also offer demonstration of our little cars as well as pass out burn prevention materials, stickers, and other information. We are always happy to support fire departments during EMS and fire prevention open houses. The speakers Bureau will do its part and we ask you to get us a date. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Until next month………….
If you would like to schedule someone to visit your group please contact George Robinson.
