WINTER CARNIVAL SDC STYLE
MTU's 5th goal of the game. MTU swept Minnesota taking the McInnes Cup. Winter Carnival MVP was Andre Savage.
The MTU airship is fun to watch. During carnival hockey game intermission it dropped money and certificates onto the fans below.
One lucky person gets his or her own chance to win prizes. Take helmet, a shopping cart, and the airship, what do you get? Lots of fun. It looks easy to catch money in a shopping cart but it isn't. The last item dropped was a certificate for a color TV but the contestant went home without it.
The "Zamboni song" is played while Don Juntunen resurfaces the ice. Winter Carnival Queen, Dana Feak, sponsored by Delta Sigma Phi get a chance to ride on the Zamboni.
It has become a tradition for the MTU Hockey Huskies to salute their fans by raising their sticks in the air at the end of a series. This tradition was started by former defenseman Kip Noble.
The Student Development Complex is alive with activity during Winter Carnival. This year both the men's and women's basketball teams were home hosting Lake Superior State. It was a great weekend for MTU with two hockey wins and both basketball teams victorious.
Not to be left out in talking about Winter Carnival Hockey are the two Mite (5 year olds) Hockey teams that played a 4-minute game at intermission. Those kids are so cute and they just love getting out on the MTU ice, they can be real hams.
