MTU Students at work!
Building a snow statue begins after Christmas Break. The larger ones take the full month of January to complete. MTU breaks for students to participate in Carnival at noon on Wednesday. Judging is done on Thursday of Winter Carnival, statues must be completed by 8:00 AM. Most of campus is up all Wednesday night completing statues or building "one nighters". When I stopped to take a picture on Wednesday afternoon the crew was very busy, music was blaring and spirits were high, even the weather was cooperating. The final night of work is covered by several local radio stations and the local TV stations and it is often mentioned on the national news.

Work in progress

It takes and engineer!

The pictures below were taken the afternoon before the deadline of 8:00 AM Thursday.

And still more if you aren't bored yet.
I think the stagecoach is coming.

NOW take a look at some of the finished statues!

OK..Still interested? Check out the SDC at Carnival.
There is a lot more to carnival than statues. How about Ice Bowling where people are the ball. It's a team sport with each team having 10 members. One person is the ball and two others push him/her down the lane of ice on a sled (saucer) aimed at wooden pins.
Some of the other events of Carnival are Broomball, Skating, Ice Fishing, Snow Volleyball, X-Country Skiing, Queen Competition, Beard Competition, Skits, Dogsled Race (no dogs), Tug of War, Downhill Skiing, Fireworks, Horse drawn sleigh rides, Snowshoeing, and the Sno-ball. If that isn't enough for you how about shish kebabs from a booth sponsored by the Society of Women Engineers or Nachoc from the Society for Environmental Engineering. Does an all night Pancake Breakfast tempt you? Are Brats more to your liking? Take in the Blueline Clubs annual Brunch on Saturday.
