Michigan Tech's Winter Carnival
Snow Statues
Winter Carnival at Michigan Tech is the highlight
of a long winter. Students begin work on the statues as soon as they
return from Christmas break. They often work in temperatures well
below zero. Snow is usually plentiful but it has happened that snow
was hauled in , usually, just from other areas of the community.
Snow is never very far away in January, in the U.P. One day can make
a huge difference in the supply.
These picture were taken back in the early 1960's with a very inexpensive camera. The film is even black and white.
