27 October - Portland, Oregon

Having never turned a wheel in the RTG Ltd. BMW M3 racing car, Kevin York was eager with anticipation to do just that in this past Saturday's 26th Annual Eight Hours of the Cascades sportscar endurance race at Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon.

Morning practice was on a cold and damp track - not ideal conditions to get acquainted with a race car on slick racing tires!

Kevin and primary team drivers, Mike Helton and Steve Pfeifer, deemed the car ready to go after each took time behind the wheel.

Just prior to the race, RTG Ltd.'s Seattle-based crew performed last-minute reviews of all the critical systems on the bright yellow BMW and also declared the car fit for the eight-hour competition.

The race included thirty-nine racing teams categorized in four distinct classes.

The RTG Ltd. BMW raced in the "P1" class for large-displacement engines with high horsepower. This class also included some vehicles that had even higher specific output than the RTG Ltd. car so a class, and especially an overall, win would not be an easy task.

The race started with the traditional LeMans start with each driver standing away from the car, across the track. When the starting blast was heard, all thirty-nine drivers sprinted across the track to then belt themselves in to the cars and race out on to the course to begin the eight-hour odyssey.

Kevin started the race for RTG Ltd. with Steve Pfeifer getting in the car next, followed by team principal, Mike Helton.

When darkness descended, Mike brought the car in for refueling and a tire change and asked Kevin to get back in for the final drive to the finish.

Spectators were dazzled by a constant stream of race cars blasting by in the dark of night at speeds over one-hundred sixty miles per hour with bright lights blazing.

In finishing the race for RTG Ltd., Kevin brought the BMW M3 past the checkered flag in fifth position in the P1 class and sixth position in the overall standings - of the thirty-nine entrants. Not too bad for a "first-date" with the team and car!!

With trophy in hand, Kevin and RTG, Ltd. now look forward to competing in the season ending Grand American Road Racing Association's "Grand-Am Finale" at Daytona International Speedway's road course, November 8 - 10.

This event will be Kevin's first time at the famed Speedway and he is anticipating a steep learning curve.

"As I progress through each new racing challenge, I learn more about myself and my driving," Kevin remarked Saturday. "Being at a track as demanding as Daytona will be an excellent way to continue that process. I look forward to doing it with RTG Ltd. and the fine BMW M3 that they have."
