Arkansas Bicycle Club schedule

Guests are welcome at all ABC rides and meetings. All ride participants must wear a Snell- or ASTM-approved helmet. Call the ride leader for more information, especially if the chance of precipitation is greater than 50 percent or if the forecast temperature is below 40. Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month, except for December.

ABC/CARP Christmas Party

  • 7 p.m. Dec. 8, 2001
    Hostess: Corky Binz, 1015 N. Cleveland St., Little Rock. Potluck: Please bring a vegetable, salad or dessert. The clubs will furnish meat trays.

  • Arkansas Bicycle free members' only chat, message board. All members of ABC, C.A.R.P. and other clubs are invited to join. Members can also post photographs, etc.
  • Weather Note:

    When in doubt because of the weather, call the ride leader.

    Little Rock Air Force Base Ride —
    Meet at Highway 107 and Maryland in North Little Rock. DOD 2.5 Ride leader: Don Gephardt (753-3450).

  • 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 2
    Wye Mountain Ride —
    West parking lot, Pinnacle Mountain State Park. DOD 3.5, 37 miles. Optional route for beginners. Ride leader: Marshall Singer (228-6499).

    How do you join?

    All bicyclists are invited to ABC events. Dues of $15 for an individual, or $22 for a family include the monthly newsletter and various club activities. Most area bike shops offer a 10-percent discount off regular prices for ABC members.

    An application blank is in each newsletter. Write: ABC, P.O. Box 95362, North Little Rock, Ark. 72190. (This is a new address!)

    The ABC's annual Joe Weber Arky 100 features routes of 25, 50, 62 and 100 miles. Riders enjoyed perfect weather and a great ride in 2000.

    Web site offers trails information

    The U.S. Trail Information Center is one key service of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy.

    In addition to providing state-by-state lists of 700 rail trails, USTIC features links to state-specific weather forecasts, tourism information contacts and customized mapping.

    There are also links to 12 U.S. trail groups and 10 international groups, and direct e-mail links to members of Congress. The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy is a 10-year-old non-profit organization seeking to create a nation-wide network of public trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors.
