Miniature Scroll Saw Work
Miniature Scroll Pieces

I thought it would be fun to see how small I could go using my new DeWalt 20" Scroll Saw
All of the pieces below were cut using a very fine 8/0 blade.  It has 80 teeth per inch (TPI)
and is intended for use in the jewellery trade.
(I need a magnifying glass just to see which way the teeth are pointing!)

I scanned the following patterns from one of the Patrick Spielman Pattern Books and reduced them so they measured 2 inches in one direction (size of a small, thin piece of walnut that I had handy!)

I just placed the cut-outs on the scanner and added to two quarters (one from Canada and one from the US for reference) to show their relative size.

This piece reminds me of the Bohemian Waxwings that flock to the Mountain Ash berries outside my window (although they're not shaped correctly - more like black birds)      I found this pattern of the piper to be very delicate and pretty.  (My wife made some comment about Bill C ---!!!)
This is sort of like the train going no where.  Interesting project though.
A close-up of the passenger car from the train scroll project.  You can just see the passengers holding onto hand straps (because of the great speed I suppose.)

I enjoyed cutting them out but now the question
What to I do with them?

Photograph Reproduction
Piece is 5 1/2" X 9"

My Dad
I am very pleased with this piece.  I took a photograph of my father
and reproduced it on a piece of walnut.  Although it looks green, the backing
is black and it is very effective making the cutouts look like a black line drawing.
