Here's a map of that special place that I hunt. This is the area where my buddy Mike lives (referenced as "A"). He does not own very much land. However, he has obtained exclusive rights to hunt the land that is red. This area is a mix of swamp, pine trees, hay fields and apple orchards. This land is HEAVILY POSTED AND TRESSPASSED UPON! Mike and I attempt to keep out the people who do not belong but it is very difficult when many of these tresspassers have lived and hunted in the area for years.
Here is the bruiser I got on the opening day (maked "B") of southern tier in 1994 (Monday). This deer was chasing a doe with another nice six point. I usually stayed in the general area of Syracuse for Southern Tier (opening day), because it is usually real crowded on opening day and the first weekend. That year my main area dried up and I needed a place to go. Mike took his bow and I to a tree stand the day before opening day. While we chatted in the stand, a nice six point came within 30 yards of my new stand. Sorry to say, Mike missed but things were looking up!
On Wednesday night Mike took a friend out "just looking" to see what was going on. His buddy took this deer (marked "B" - above) right between the houses next door to him!! (the one on the right) The next morning was Thanksgiving and Mike and his 2 sons (Mike -10; Matt-7), were sneaking through the Christmas tree farm next door at dawn, when the twin to my deer above(to Mike's left above)went tearing through!! Under no pressure at all Mike shot the deer. It went about 195 pounds and had 8 points(taken in spot "C" above)
This 9 point was taken in spot "E". Taken on the last day of muzzleloader season in 1995 by this neighbor of Mike's. Mike missed him with a bow behind his house and I saw him during bow season. He weighed abut 200 lbs.
