Access: 6 hours from the Kaitoke road end, 4-5 hours to Kime Hut.
Comments: The first Alpha Hut was built in 1915, the 2nd replaced it in 1953 ( it was 6 yards inside the new water catchment area) and the 3rd in 1982 (hut 2 burned). Two sleeping platforms, tank water (outside). A cosy hut with a nice view of Mt. Hector. Had been upgraded in early 1996 - details to follow.

Anchorage

Where: The Anchorage, a bay on the Abel Tasman coastline.

Access: 3 to 4 easy hours hiking from the Marahau road end. 3-4 hours to Bark Hut.
Comments:A Great Walk hut (needs a dated ticket brought in advance) with no gas stoves. Two sleeping platforms in each of two rooms to either side of the central living/cooking room.

Access: About 5 hours from Waitewaewae Hut via a steep climb. 4.5 hours from Maungahuka.
Comments:The original hut was first dropped on the site by Oliver Anderson (a pilot) who died a year later flying supplies to the Fiordland deer cullers. Six bunks with mattresses. Nestled in bush but good views 200 metres to the north.

Access: 5-7 hours from the Mt. Robert carpark (along the Robert Ridge), about 7 hours from the carpark via Speargrass Hut, 6 hours up steeply from Lakehead Hut and 5 untracked hours over Sunset Saddle from Hopeless Hut.
Comments: One of the best sited huts in NZ with the blue lake at your feet. Expect lots of people. See the view from the other side!

Access: 3 easy hours from the Mt. Holdsworth road end, 3 hours (down!) from Jumbo Hut.
Comments: A neat and tidy hut. Water from the nearby stream. Handy for a head start on a Friday night.

Access: 1 hour from Kashmir Road end or 3 to 4 hours from Makaratu Hut.
Comments: Does have some sleeping room on the floor but no place to take a large group. A quaint little hut on the north branch of the Makaratu River.

Awaroa

Where: Awaroa Inlet on the Abel Tasman coastline.

Access: 2 easy hours from Totaranui but the crossing of the inlet must be done within 2 hours either side of low tide. 4 hours from Bark Bay and its hut with another tidal crossing.
Comments: Wonderful setting looking across the inlet. Great Walk hut - book in advance. No gas.
