Tubbataha Reef National Marine Reserve

A large reef system covering 33,200 ha, this area in the Sulu Sea was designated a marine reserve in 1988. It's a popular dive destination but has been threatened by illegal fishing that damages the reefs and settlements of seaweed farmers on the atolls.

Tubbataha Reef is about 160 km southeast of Puerto Princessa the provincial capital of Palawan. Dive trip operators in Manila and Cebu City arrange excursions to the reef.
