NewsJuly 15, 1998 - Contra Costa Times (California)Editors Note: This isn't about the Philippines but is an interesting climbing story from this part of the world. Mt. Shasta
A 40-year-old climber reached the summit of Mt Shasta (14,162 feet) for the sixth time in a 24-hour period Tuesday, braving darkness, high winds and nausea along the way. Robert Webb climbed 6,000 feet from a staging area at Horse Camp to the summit six times beginning a 1:30 p.m. Monday. In all, Webb ascended 36,000 feet, the equivalent of climbing from sea level to the summit of Mount Everest, plus nearly 7,000 feet. Webb was a bit weak-kneed but in good spirits when he arrived
at his base camp after his final descent just after 3 p.m. Tuesday.
