Atlantis
Not a bad little sport crag, with one major advantage over virtually every other crag in the Blue Mountains:
it's totally protected from the wind. This makes it the perfect destination on those freezing cold winter days
that the Mountains seem to love throwing at climbers at unpredictable times.
Unfortunately the crag is a bit one dimensional, with nothing but mid to hard grade sport routes on offer. Still,
it's better than freezing your appendages off at another crag!
The guide for the area is "Blue Mountains Selected Climbing Areas" guide.
Climbs described right to left and bottom to top, facing the cliff.
Right Side Lower Wall
Subwoofer 13m 19
Not a bad little route at all, although not very sustained. The moves up to and past the first RB comprise the crux,
so it might be an idea to stick clip it. Once at the second RB it's a doddle. Lower off just below the walk around
ledge.
Driving the Fat Farang 13m 20
Also not bad, although the start is a bit sharp. You only score 18 if you bridge off the tree!
Right Side Upper Wall
To get up here continue left to a decomposing ladder with assorted slings, rungs and other paraphenalia strewn up the
cliff. Take great care cranking off these - one of the slings snapped while we were here.
Wingman Anytime 15m 21
A little bit greasy down low, but some of the amazing jugs make up for it. Reserves the crux right for the top - a
reachy move to gain the clipping holds for the anchors.
Far Left Side
To get up here you need to lead the grade 18 rusty iron ladder / traverse thing that starts to the left of the huge
cave. Take great care on this, since at least one person has fallen off it and been injured (and given the advanced
state of decay of the rungs, others will probably soon follow).
Highside 23m 23
A great route with exposure out of all proportion to its length. The initial section is ridiculously steep, with a
desperate crux to gain the break below the small roof. The moves left and up through the roof are excellent and not
too hard, and if the moves down low didn't give you a pump, the sustained headwall certainly will! Make sure you track
while lowering off, or you'll end up in the creek!
