Bay Tree Towers
The Bay Tree Towers are the cliffs visible just south of Victoria Pass on the Great Western Highway. While they offer 2 minute access, the cliffs are generally quite short in length, and the rock quality degenerates as you head further east.
To get there, drive through Mt Victoria, and start down Victoria Pass. About 400m past the stone carving is a tiny parking bay (about 100m uphill from the big safety ramp). Park here and wander 50m back up the road to the crag.
The guide for the area is the "Rockclimbs in the Upper Blue Mountains (2nd Edition)" guide book.
Cream 10m 16
A nice warm up climb, with a one move crux. Start up the right hand side of the arete (wire/hex/cam in crappy rock), past a bolt (crux), then more easily up (minimal protection) to the tiny tree. Either belay here (great wires/hexes/cams in the crack) or continue up to the top (tree belay well back from the edge).
Double Exposure 20m 17
A nice journey up an exposed, slabby face. Although the rock quality up to the first bolt is abysmal, it does improve on the face above! Nice moves across the slab past a BR (crux) then up the arete (BR) to a massive slung boulder belay.
The best descent for these two routes is to the right (facing the cliff) down a gully just before "The Crack". There's a good tree to rap off, although it also looks possible to down climb the gully. Apparently there are rap chains installed somewhere up here, but we didn't find them.
