Crew Equipment

Updated 16 February 2006

__Tents
__Plastic ground sheet (one per tent)
__Backpacking stoves (2)
__Fuel Bottles (3 or so)
__Water filter (optional)
__2.5 gallon collapsible water jugs (2) Water bags work even better. Another option is to have each person in the crew carry an extra quart.
__First aide kit
__Bags for bear bags (if you choose not to use the Philmont issue burlap)
__Rope for bear bags (2@ 150 ft) (Philmont will supply -- some like to bring their own to save weight and bulk)
__Matches
__Steel garden trowel (for cat holes -- in place of Philmont issue spade -- plastic will work but not soo good in hard, rocky soil)
__Soap (camp suds<®> or the like)
__Tent stakes for fly (10)
__Repair kit: ducT tape, wire, pack pins, sayfety pins, heavy duty needle & thread (dental floss or fishing line work well)
__Gerber multi-plier pocket tool ®. (one per crew)
__Bright Flashlight or Head Lamp * (1)

*Mini Mag ® lights are great for backpacking, but a need may arise for more light then one of them can provide. For instance, on my trek in '98 one of the scouts in my crew cut his leg open near dusk. Had it been even 15 minutes later, a larger flashlight would have been a God-send. With the popularity of headlamps, this is not as much an issue as it was a couple years ago. Many headlamps are more then adequet.
