North Channel Destinations

OK, so we're going to the North Channel. From what I had heard and read, the North Channel has countless ports, anchorages, and coves. We knew we couldn't see them all in one summer but we did want to see the "goodies!" So where does one start?

I had the following references:

With all my resources in hand, I started studying my charts and books. After a few days I had gained much information but now I was even more confused. I still didn't know which locations were the "MUST SEE" spots.

Finally, I decided I needed some expert help, I turned to the Internet. During a surfing session I had come across the cruising and liveaboard newsgroup. I posted a message and soon I had the information I was looking for. Well, kind-of!

Shortly after posting my message, the EMAILS started to pour in. The first message I received really got my attention. The message started out something like this:

WATCH OUT FOR THE ROCKS!

The message went on to warn me of one particular famous or is it infamous rock appropriately name Phantom Rock. Once the writer had my attention he went on to list his favorite stops and also referred me to the North Channel Web Site.

Another series of messages pointed me toward the Great Lakes Cruising Club and the Great Lakes Cruiser Magazine. We had already joined the GLCC and had seen one issue of the magazine. Both of these were excellent resources.

With a rather large stack of EMAIL messages, I spent many winter nights locating the suggested ports and anchorages. The first way point I plotted was of course --- Phantom Rock. I wanted to be sure I knew where this spot was. To see our list of recommended North Channel destinations check out the cross-reference listed below.
