HISTORICAL INFORMATION: During World War 2 a
relocation camp was built near here, by the U.S. government, just a few miles soutwest
of Sugarville, Millard County, Utah, in which was placed approx. 22,000 people, mostly from the
west coast of the U. S. It was thought that since these people
had Japanese ancestors, that they might cause trouble in the
U. S. Actually most of them were United States citizens. The camp was surrounded by fences & guarded like a prison. The
name of it was Topaz War Relocation Camp, Topaz, Utah.
After the war, the people were allowed to go free, and return to
the west coast, or wherever they wanted. Living in the camp was a hard time for them.
