TOPAZ MOUNTAIN TOUR--------------

Have you ever been there? It is located near Sugarville, Millard County, northwest of Delta, Utah, out in the desert, in central Juab County.

Do you know what a topaz looks like? Here, take a look:

Most topaz crystals found here are clear or kind of yellowish.

It's easy to find Topaz Mountain. In Utah find Highway 6 & 50 between Lynndyl & Delta. About 4 miles south of Lynndyl (11 miles northeast of Delta) there is a paved highway, which goes west, past Brush Wellman berillium plant, and on west past Intermountain Power Service Corp (power generating plant), and on past hot springs (near a long low ancient volcano hill, and on to Topaz Mountain. It is quite a large mountain, on the right side of the highway. It is quite near the highway. When you get near it, watch for a dirt road turning off to the right which takes you right to the base of the mountain. You can drive right up to the mountain.

You can get out of your car and find topaz crystals right on the road, and you can climb around on the hills, and you can find nice, large ones. It is sooo easy! Take your great grandmother with you. She will have fun finding them, too! .....

We sometimes make changes here, so keep coming back to check on things. We enjoy having you, and your friends drop in. SO COME AGAIN, PLEASE! -----------------------------------

AN EXTRA BIT OF HISTORICAL INFORMATION:

During World War 2 a relocation camp was built near here, by the U.S. government, just a few miles soutwest of Sugarville, Millard County, Utah, in which was placed approx. 22,000 people, mostly from the west coast of the U. S. It was thought that since these people had Japanese ancestors, that they might cause trouble in the U. S. Actually most of them were United States citizens. The camp was surrounded by fences & guarded like a prison. The name of it was Topaz War Relocation Camp, Topaz, Utah. After the war, the people were allowed to go free, and return to the west coast, or wherever they wanted. Living in the camp was a hard time for them.
