Lake Ontario to the Atlantic Ocean

The Saint Lawrence Seaway allows large sea-going freight ships to enter the Great Lakes. The development of the Seaway resulted in dramatic changes in water levels in the Saint Lawrence valley. Seven small villages near Cornwall were abandoned as part of this project.

The opening of the Seaway also allowed non-native species to enter the Great Lakes. This resulted in the loss of some native species.

The Saint Lawrence Recreation Path goes from Morrisburg to Lancaster, along the St. Lawrence River. Eventually, it will continue to the Quebec border.

The Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary near Ingleside includes nature trails and supports a large concentration of Canada Geese.
