Preface to Jack of All Trades

Jack of all Trades and Master of Only One

Preface

The purpose of a book is to create a permanent written record of a particular subject. The 36,921 words contained in this book only scratch the surface of the record of my life. Although I do have almost total recall of my life from the age of about six years until now, most of it would be boring, even to those for whom this book is written. Therefore, I have only covered those things, which have affected my life the most.

All of my grandparents, with the exception my Grandmother Susan Gazzaway, were already at rest in their graves when I was born; she joined them when I was one month and one day old. All I know about my grandparents is what I have been told by others. I have no written account of their lives. Because I have always wanted to know them, and to know more about them, I have determined to leave a written account of my life so that my grandchildren may know more about me.

I do not apologize for the grammar, the structure of paragraphs, the placement of commas, nor the colloquial terms used in this book. I am aware that others could have done a far better job of constructing it, from a grammatical standpoint, than I. It could have been edited by an expert, but that would have defeated the purpose of it. That purpose being, that those who read it recognize me in it.

James, Chapter 4, verse 14 tells us, ".. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." I earnestly hope that this vapour which dwells in me will be remembered by those I love when it vanishes away.
