Feather River
2000
It looks like this year will be a minmal fishing
year. I am back in the Firefighting Organization and I am spending
more time on fires than I am fishing. So far this year I have been
on six fires (as of 16 Aug). It is now 7 October and I think Fire
Season is over. I have had 8 fires this year and it is time for a
rest.
24-27 July
I did get this first trip in between fires.
A fellow Elk, Richard Hughes went with me. We left Monday nite and
came home Thursday Eve. There were a lot of fishermen and many fish
were caught. I got one, a 27 pounder, but poor Richard got skunked.
He had several hook-ups but did not land any. Seems like every "newbie"
I take up gets skunked the first trip out.

22-23 Aug
My second trip of the year and it turned out to be interesting.
Arrived at the fishing hole about noon Tues. and was fishing by 1400.
Got one, about a 20 pounder. Got the seconnd fish late Wed at the
bluff area. Called my wife to let her know I had my second fish and
would be home the next morning. She replied, no you won't, you are
going to a fire. Call the Forest Service. So I called the FMO
and he said he had an assignment for me on the Storrie Fire at Quincy.
So on Thursday morning I broke camp and instead of heading home, went to
the fire camp west of Lake Almanor. Did not get any pictures of my
fish, but here is a photo of another lucky fisherman I met.
2-4 October
I was planning on going up to Oroville on the 9th for the last week
of fishing but I decided what the heck. May as well go up this week
as well. This week and next week will give me fout trips this year.
Unfortunately, the Salmon season also seems to be at an end. The
fishing was the worst I have experienced since I started fishing the Feather.
I did not get a strike and very few fish were caught. Of six fish
caught, five were released because they were completely black. In
the past there have been some fresh runs come up river this late, but this
year no fresh fish. So I decided to cancel out the trip on the 9th,
Just does not seem worthwhile making the trip up for nothing. Took
a couple shots just to show how few fishermen there were this week.
Thats it for this year. See you again next year.
