George Frederick Hopkins, Jr. - Born at Parkin, Arkansas May 24, 1942.
Saralene Ann Lawrence - Born at Kalispell, Montana July 19, 1942.
We met in St. Paul, Minnesota in the spring of 1963 and married in Dakota City, Nebraska December 5, 1963. After living in St. Paul, Minnesota for awhile, we went to live in Florida in February 1964. Then to Georgia.
Our son George Frederick Hopkins, III (see his page) was born in Dothan, Alabama while we were moving from Georgia to Arkansas.
Our daughter Debby Sue (see her page) was born in Forrest City, Arkansas.
Then we lived in Memphis, Tennessee until July 1968 at which time we moved to Bigfork, Montana. We lived in Montana until July 1971, then we immigrated to the province of British Columbia in Canada. We have lived in British Columbia ever since.
I am a very busy housewife. I spend most of my time at home doing all the things that housewives ordinarily do. I love and enjoy my little pets (see their page) and have lots of flowers to tend to. I love spending time with all my family. I very much like to go on field trips with George to observe, study and do landscape and nature photography. We both enjoy studying and photographing all kinds of wildlife, plants, wildflowers and birds.
I am a retired businessman, inventor and conductor. I was President of Sentinel Innovative Technologies, Inc., a research and development company in British Columbia. I worked as a conductor for Canadian Pacific Railway on the Mountain and Shuswap Subdivisions in British Columbia for 24 years. I mostly worked as a conductor on freight trains traveling from Revelstoke, B.C. to Kamloops, B.C. (128 miles to the west) and to Field, B.C. (122 miles to the east). I also worked as the conductor on the Rocky Mountaineer Railtours Train on the Shuswap and Mountain Subdivisions, but primarily on the Mountain Subdivision.
I enjoyed working on the trains in the Mountains very much. Each trip between Revelstoke, British Columbia and Field, British Columbia provided spectacular views of Mt. Revelstoke National Park, Glacier National Park and Yoho National Park.
Since retiring in March 2005, in my spare time, when not spending time at home, I enjoy going with Saralene on field trips to many of the beautiful places in our area. I love photographing the incredible scenery, wildlife & plantlife and also studying the flora, fauna, rocks and minerals of the area.
I still manage to find some time to devote to community service and I'm a member of the Elks of Canada. I presently serve as a Past President of the British Columbia Elks Association promoting the organization and having a great time with all the members. There are about 50 Lodges and about 3000 members in B.C.. I am Secretary of the local Elks Lodge. I also serve as one of 4 Elks members who manage the operations of the four childrens camps of the Elks Recreation Childrens Camp Society of British Columbia. Approximately 4000 children attend these beautiful camps each year FREE. I tutor at the Okanagan Community College in two different programs and I'm the official photographer and a tour guide at the Revelstoke Railway Museum. I have a million other volunteer jobs too. So I keep really busy.
