Description of Great Langdale

Great Langdale is probably one of the most visited valleys in the English Lake District.
This is hardly surprising, for in the confines of a relatively small area it offers walking to suit all abilities, outstanding scenery (look at the GALLERY), good pubs and town facilities nearby, and it is reasonably accessible by car.

Walks in Great Langdale - Route A

A steep start from the Inn is rewarded with some beautiful views from the top. Footpaths are good and there's a fine pint of real ale waiting in the New Inn at the end of the route.

Walks in Great Langdale - Route B

This is an extension of Route A continuing the walk along the northern edge of the Langdale horseshoe. Passing the site of an ancient flint 'factory' before descending into the upper reaches of Langdale valley. A long stroll through the valley is finally rewarded with a choice of ales at either the Old or the New Inn.

Walks in Great Langdale - Route C

Instead of dropping down off Route B at Stake Gill, if you're feeling lively you may wish to walk over the massif of Bowfell. You can return to the valley, and those welcoming Inns via The Band (Route C), or do more of the horseshoe by continuing over Crinkle Craggs and Pike o' Blisco, another couple of hours!
