LOCATION: Approximately 125 miles Northeast of Indianapolis.


DIRECTIONS: 37N from Indianapolis to SR 13. Take SR13 thru North Webster and follow signs.

LAKE INFORMATION: Wawasee is a 2,618 acre natural lake (largest natural lake in Indiana).Wawasee is a VERY clear lake and has very little wood or usual shoreline structure. The lake is a popular resort lake and is surrounded with year-round and summer homes. This equates to many boatdocks, which do hold fish. There is abundant grass nearly everywhere. Best bass fishing is around the numerous shallow weedbeds that are on the underwater hills and humps. The bottom is sand and gravel with many shallow humps in open water. There are smallmouth in Wawasee, as well as some Northern Pike. In the spring, many fish are caught in the canal and on Syracuse Lake, which connects with Wawasee via a canal. Topwater baits are very popular and succuessful in the early mornings. There are many tournaments held here each year and a 12 inch limit of fish was very easy to obtain. Note: The legal limit for bass is now 14 inches.


RAMPS: There is one concrete ramp on Wawasee with a barely adequate parking lot. There is also a state owned launching ramp on Lake Syarcuse. Nearly all tournaments launch from Wawasee.


MARINAS: There are several full service Marinas on both Wawasee and Lake Syracuse.


CAMPING: There is no camping at Wawasee, although there are several campgrounds nearby. (see bottom of article for sites).


FOOD: There are numerous grocery store, some fast food, and several mini marts closeby.


MOTELS: There are a few motels within a reasonable distance. (see list below)
