In the Native American culture the Mens Traditional is the oldest form of dance. The Lakota are usually accredited with the birth of this dance. It is said that the Creator put animals on the earth and the dance is thought to represent this. Movements represent warrior actions and also the imitation of a praire chicken. The warrior actions include hunting, stalking game or battling an enemy. The regalia is a very personal expression of creativity and artistry. There is no "one" look, early warriors are reflected by many elements. Animal bone or shell breast plates, chokers, decorated hide shields and often a single bustle (with eagle feathers as these are sacred) are examples of different components to make up the regalia.
